It's always a rollercoaster being a Maple Leafs fan, isn't it? The start of the season had so much promise with the new coaching style under Craig Berube, and it seemed like they were finally finding their groove. But then, that 6-2 loss to the Blue Jackets was a harsh reminder of the inconsistency that has plagued this team for years.
I mean, how can a team with so much talent like Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner come out flat against a team they should be beating? It’s frustrating to see them play down to their competition, especially when every point counts in such a competitive Atlantic Division. The stats from the two games against the Canadiens and Blue Jackets really highlight the disparity in their performance.
I do appreciate the players' mindset after the game, though. It’s good to see that they’re not satisfied with that performance and recognize the need to learn from it. But at some point, those words need to translate into action on the ice. They have to find a way to bring that intensity and work ethic consistently, regardless of the opponent.
The new mentality is promising, but it’s time for the Leafs to prove they can sustain it. If they can turn this around and start winning those winnable games, they could really make a statement this season. I’m hopeful they can learn from this and come back stronger! What do you think? Do you believe they can shake off this inconsistency?
