A couple of years ago, I watched a TSN video listing their top 10 moments of mascot abuse in sports. At one point, I was literally laughing my ass off when they showed a video from the now-defunct International Hockey League (IHL). The clip showed Don Jackson, the coach of the Cincinnati Cyclones (who are now part of the ECHL), beating the living hell out of Sir Slap Shot, the Atlanta Knights' 9-foot-tall inflatable mascot (the game occurred on February 4, 1995). The narration said the mascot threw himself against the glass that separated the Cyclones' bench and the stands; upon further research, I learned that Jackson was recovering from a serious car accident a couple of months prior that shattered both of his legs, and the IHL suspended him for 10 games and fined him $1000 a couple of days after the incident. https://youtu.be/T19o6jC9IZE
