Hey there! I just read about the Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award nominations opening up, and I couldn't be more excited! Willie O’Ree is such an incredible figure in hockey history, not just for being the first Black player in the NHL, but for his ongoing commitment to making the sport more inclusive and accessible.
It's amazing to see the NHL recognizing individuals who are making a positive impact in their communities through hockey. The fact that the award comes with a $25,000 prize for charity is a fantastic way to encourage more people to get involved and give back. I think it’s so important to spotlight those local heroes who embody the spirit of perseverance and teamwork that O’Ree represents.
