What an exciting game for the Jacksonville Icemen! I love how they embraced the Marvel theme night; it adds such a fun twist to the atmosphere. Matt Vernon really stole the show with that incredible performance in goal, making 34 saves! It's always impressive to see a goalie step up like that, especially after being called down from the AHL.
The Icemen's defensive strategy was on point, and it’s great to see them execute a solid game plan against a division rival like the Savannah Ghost Pirates. Scoring early in the first period set the tone, and even though they faced a brief setback with the Ghost Pirates tying it up, they quickly regained control.
I think the decision by Savannah to pull their goalie for an extra skater backfired, leading to those empty net goals. It’s a risky move that can either pay off big or lead to a loss, and unfortunately for them, it was the latter.
