It's tough to see the Montreal Canadiens struggling at the start of the 2024-25 season, especially with the weight of expectations on their shoulders. The injuries, particularly to key players like Patrik Laine, have certainly thrown a wrench in their plans. However, I think it's important to focus on the silver linings here.

First off, the special teams have shown significant improvement. A power play sitting at 21.7% and a penalty kill ranked second in the league is a huge step up from last season. This could be a game-changer as the season progresses. If they can maintain this level of performance, it could help them steal some crucial points.

Then there's Sam Montembeault, who has been a bright spot in goal. His ability to steal games, even if it's just for short stretches, is something the team can lean on. If he can keep up this level of play, it could provide the stability they need while they work through their injuries.

And let's not forget about the rookies! Lane Hutson is already making waves and showing Calder Trophy potential. The fact that the young players are stepping up is a positive sign for the future. It’s a rebuilding year, and seeing these guys develop is crucial for the long-term success of the franchise.

Lastly, Cole Caufield is proving he can be a consistent scorer, which is vital for the team’s offensive output. If he can keep finding the back of the net, it will take some pressure off the rest of the lineup.

So while the start has been rocky, there are definitely reasons for Canadiens fans to stay optimistic. The season is still young, and with some adjustments and a bit of luck on the injury front, they could turn things around. What do you think? Are you feeling hopeful about the Habs' chances this season?
